Job Title: Service Engineer - Mechanical
Duties:



The role holder will: • Supervise the offloading and manoeuvering into position of large generator up to 200Mva and related equipment onto prepared foundations
• Carry out alignment checks and adjustments to machines and complex shaft systems using mechanical, optical and laser based systems
• Strip down and rebuild large generators and related equipment; fault fi nd and rectify as necessary and overhaul and clean
• Complete all paperwork associated with the installation to ensure safety and quality compliance
• Interpret specifications and technical requirements; prepare method statements and prepare detailed and concise reports for submission to customers, attending technical meeting on site and at customer’s premises as required
• Undergo training, as necessary, to provide assistance to winding specialists in carrying out in-situ winding repairs/rewinds
• Train customers’ personnel, and subcontractors in the safe operation of equipment and in diagnosis of faults
• To support and deliver in house training for other members of the service organization and customer facing employees
• Carry out on site risk assessment on every assignment and record details thereof on the special form provided
• Carry out other reasonable duties as directed from time to time by the Field Service Manager

This is a challenging and important role requiring a high degree of technical competence with a corresponding level of self sufficiency and resourcefulness, as global time differences often mean that factory support is not immediately available. The nature of the work calls for strength of character and physical fitness. Differing assignments may require working alone or as a member of a team.
Qualifications or Functional Experience
• Degree in Mechanical Engineering OR qualified through a recognized Craft Apprenticeship in Fitting/erection of large machines with 5 years post apprenticeship experience
• Must have proven extensive knowledge of heavy lifting procedures
• Must be able to accurately interpret Engineering drawings relevant to given assignments
• Ideally should have a sound knowledge of Health and Safety relevant to on site working and have intimate knowledge of safe systems of work in an HV environment
• Should either possess or be prepared to undergo training for offshore working
• Must have a sound knowledge of, and be able to work to, required quality control procedures

System or Knowledge
• Computer literate in Word, Excel and Microsoft Power Point with the ability to maintain accurate records

• Able to undertake extensive overseas and offshore working in addition to attending at sites in the UK often for protracted periods

• Able to work with the Companies rules and guidance notes for Health and Safety including operation of safe systems of work in relation to high voltage and medium voltage electrical systems and work in a heavy industrial environment
• Proactively keeps up to date with the technical changes in the industry in order to support customer requirements
